Operating Precautions for Hot-Water Gas Boilers
(1) When starting the large circulating water pump, the bypass valve should be opened first to prevent damage to the boiler or radiators caused by excessively rapid pressure rise during startup. After the boiler is running normally, the main water valve should be opened and the bypass valve closed.
(2) As the water temperature rises and feedwater enters the boiler, gases will continuously precipitate; therefore, the air vent valve should be opened frequently.
(3) During operation, hot-water and gas-fired boilers shall also be periodically drained through the blowdown valves. When draining, attention must be paid to maintaining stable boiler pressure to prevent water hammer caused by steam generation from the boiler water. Wastewater from the network system shall be discharged via the wastewater treatment unit.
(4) Minimize the make-up water volume in hot-water heating systems; promptly repair any leaks; strengthen management of air-vent and drain devices; and prohibit the unauthorized use of hot water for other purposes. In general, the make-up water volume should be kept within 1% of the system’s circulating water volume.
(5) The expansion pipe of the expansion tank shall be installed on the boiler’s water supply (outlet) main pipe; valves are strictly prohibited from being installed on the expansion pipe, and freeze-protection measures shall be implemented.
(6) The circulating water shall maintain a specified flow rate and be evenly distributed to all heating surfaces to prevent evaporation.
(7) Appropriate measures shall be taken to protect against power outages. In the case of a naturally circulating hot-water gas-fired boiler, a sudden power failure will still allow the boiler water to continue circulating, posing little threat to safe operation. However, for a forced-circulation hot-water gas-fired boiler, a sudden power outage that causes the circulation pump and fan to stop will immediately halt the boiler-water circulation, increasing the risk of serious accidents due to evaporation. Larger boiler rooms are often equipped with backup power supplies or diesel generators that can be rapidly started when the grid power is lost, thereby ensuring that water circulation within the system is not interrupted.
(8) To ensure coordinated operation between the boiler firing system and the water circulation system and to prevent accidents from occurring or escalating, it is advisable to interlock the boiler’s coal-feeding and ventilation equipment with the water pumps, so that the furnace is immediately extinguished when water circulation ceases.
(9) Environmental protection is now being promoted nationwide, particularly with regard to gas-fired boilers. When purchasing a boiler, users should pay close attention to local environmental regulations and select a model that meets these requirements.
